Power Station Geek exists to help you honestly compare portable power stations and accessories. That only works if our reviews, scores, and recommendations are independent of who’s paying for what. This page explains exactly how we maintain that independence.
1. How We Choose What to Review
We select power stations and accessories based on relevance to our readers – new releases, popular models, and units readers ask us to compare – not based on which brand or retailer offers the best commission. No manufacturer or retailer can pay for inclusion in our database, a review, or a “best of” list.
2. No Pay-for-Placement
Manufacturers and retailers cannot purchase a positive review, a higher score, or a better ranking. Our review scores are determined before we ever check which affiliate program a product belongs to or what commission rate it pays. A power station that scores poorly stays scored poorly, regardless of its advertising budget.
3. How We Score
Every power station is evaluated against the same 10 categories, and every accessory against its own consistent set of 10, so a score means the same thing across every review. See our full Methodology page for the details of how each category is calculated.
Scores are set by comparing a unit against others in its class (not in isolation). Hence, an “8/10” on a compact 300Wh station and an “8/10” on a 3000Wh home-backup unit reflect the same relative standard within their categories.
4. Affiliate Relationships
Power Station Geek participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other retailer and network programs. When you click certain links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Here’s what that does and doesn’t mean:
- It doesn’t mean: a higher commission gets a product a better review, a featured spot, or a higher rank in a comparison.
- It does mean: we have a financial interest in you clicking through and buying, which is exactly why we keep scoring and selection separate from monetization – and why we disclose it here rather than hiding it.

5. Corrections and Updates
Power station specs change. Manufacturers issue recalls, revise models without renaming them, and discontinue units. When we learn of a material change:
- We update the affected review or listing, generally within 48 hours of verification.
- We note what changed and when, rather than silently editing the page.
- Recalls and safety notices are flagged prominently on the affected review, not buried.
We don’t delete a review because a score is unflattering to a brand. We correct it if it’s wrong, and we say so.
6. Handling Manufacturer and Retailer Relationships
We may receive units on loan, review samples, or early access from manufacturers for testing purposes. When this happens:
- It is disclosed in the relevant review.
- It has no bearing on the score the unit receives.
- We are not required to publish a review at all in exchange for a sample, and a sample does not guarantee a positive one.
We do not accept payment, free products, or other considerations in exchange for a guaranteed positive review, and we do not allow advertisers to review or approve editorial content before publication.
7. User-Submitted Data and Reviews
Where readers submit their own performance data, ratings, or comments, that content is clearly attributed to the submitter and is separate from our own editorial scores. We do not alter user submissions to make a product look better or worse, though we do remove content that is spam, abusive, or clearly fraudulent (e.g., a competitor posing as a customer).
8. Fact-Checking and Sourcing
Where possible, specifications are verified against the manufacturer’s official manual, spec sheet, and any relevant independent certification – such as UL certification or UN38.3 battery safety testing – not just marketing copy. Where a number can’t be independently verified, we say so rather than presenting an unconfirmed figure as fact.
9. Advertising
We may display third-party display advertising on the Site. Ad placement is handled through standard ad networks and does not influence which products we review or how we score them. Editorial content and paid advertising are kept visually distinct – sponsored content, if we ever run it, will always be clearly labeled as such.
