Growatt VITA 550 Review

Add to compare

The Growatt VITA 550 returns 463Wh of its 538Wh rated capacity, an 86% result, behind a 600W inverter with a Watt+ boost to around 1,050W. Solar fills it in about 2.3 hours. AC output is disabled while charging. Mid-range price tier, priced above its band at $0.98 per watt-hour.

My Quick Verdict

One limitation of this unit overrides most of what else it does. The VITA 550 disables its AC output while charging from the wall, so it cannot supply anything and refill at the same time.

That rules out every backup role. A unit that goes dark whenever it recharges is a portable battery rather than a power supply, which is why this scores where it does despite competent hardware elsewhere.

What it does well, it does properly. Eighty-six percent conversion returns 463Wh of the 538Wh rating; the output is a correct 120 volts, and 240 watts of solar fill the pack in about 2.3 hours, which is fast for the capacity.

The app is unusually good, including a Watt+ boost mode that lifts the inverter to around 1,050 watts for short periods.

Best for: Camping and day trips where the unit is charged and used at separate times, and solar is the primary means of replenishment.

Not for: Any backup role, anything that needs uninterrupted supply, or anyone running loads above 600 watts.
